BREAKING: Fresh Faction Emerges in ADC, Rejects David Mark Coalition, Nafiu Bala as “Illegal”

Another major crack has emerged within the crisis-ridden African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a new faction, led by Don Norman Obinna, has declared itself the authentic leadership of the party and completely dissociated from both Senator David Mark’s opposition coalition and the group linked to Nafiu Bala.

The faction, which claims to be the duly elected National Executive Committee (NEC) of the ADC, made the explosive announcement at a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday.

Addressing journalists, the group stated that the tenure of former National Chairman, Ralph Nwosu, officially ended in August 2022. It accused Nwosu of illegally clinging to power, a development it said triggered the wave of litigations currently plaguing the party.

The Obinna-led faction described Nwosu’s handover of the ADC to the David Mark-led coalition as “an illegal act” that has no legal or constitutional backing.

In a series of hard-hitting resolutions read at the briefing, the new group: Fully dissociated itself from Senator David Mark and all members of the so-called opposition coalition; Rejected Nafiu Bala outright, insisting he never held the position of National Vice Chairman of the party; Declared that the David Mark-led coalition “are not members of the ADC and therefore cannot speak for the party.”

Affirmed that the party’s former Presidential Candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu, remains a bona fide and legitimate member of the ADC; Appointed new officials to steer the party’s affairs pending the conduct of a genuine national convention.

The emergence of the Obinna faction adds a new layer of complexity to the already fractured ADC, which has been battling multiple leadership disputes and court cases in recent months.
