Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has suspended his Senior Special Assistant on Print Media, Wale Ajetunmobi, following his controversial remarks on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) regarding the 2020 #EndSARS protests. The suspension, announced on Tuesday via a statement from the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, comes amid growing concerns over the accuracy and impact of Ajetunmobi’s claims.
In his post, Ajetunmobi alleged that many individuals involved in the burning of Television Continental (TVC) during the protests had been “hunted down and executed.” The assertion has drawn significant backlash and was characterized as a “misrepresentation of facts” by Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration. The statement emphasized that Ajetunmobi’s comments did not reflect the values of the Lagos State Government, which is committed to upholding the rule of law and opposing extrajudicial actions.

The incident highlights the sensitivities surrounding the #EndSARS protests, which saw widespread demonstrations against police brutality in October 2020, culminating in violence and loss of life. Ajetunmobi’s post referencing “gory clips and images” further escalated tensions, as he claimed the full details of the events surrounding the TVC incident would eventually surface.
When confronted by other users online about his implications of supporting extrajudicial killings, Ajetunmobi regarded their concerns with skepticism, insisting, “Lol. You want to create a narrative in your head? Some of the people were chased by soldiers and exchange of fire occurred. Then arsonists were overpowered and killed. Others ran away. Is that extrajudicial killing to you?”
