At least 15 people have been killed in renewed violence in Bokkos and Mangu Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Plateau State, Nigeria, in what authorities describe as coordinated attacks by gunmen.
The assaults, which occurred on Thursday night, targeted the Manja community in Chakfem kingdom, Mangu LGA, and Tangur community in Bokkos LGA, leaving residents in mourning and heightening fears of escalating insecurity in the region.
According to local sources, the attack in Tangur, Bokkos, took place around 9:00 p.m., when many residents were retiring for the night, while the Manja attack occurred earlier in the evening. Seven people were reported killed in Manja, with eight fatalities in Tangur.
The attackers, described as heavily armed, operated for hours before fleeing into the night. No group has claimed responsibility, but locals attribute the violence to suspected armed herders, citing a pattern of similar attacks in the region.
The Plateau State Police Command has not officially confirmed the casualty figures as of this report, but community leaders and eyewitnesses provided details to Tgnews.
