In a special sitting, the Adamawa State House of Assembly has approved the tenure elongation of Local Government Chairmen from two years to three years. The decision was made after Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s executive bill was sponsored by the Majority Leader, Hon Mamuno Raymond Kate.

However, it remains unclear whether the tenure elongation applies to the current local government chairmen, who have already taken an oath to serve for two years.

In a related development, the Assembly approved a virement of N2.5 billion for ongoing infrastructural development projects in the state. According to the Speaker, Rt Hon Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, the fund is within the budget and aims to augment capital and recurrent projects approved by the Governor.

The approvals were made during a special plenary session, highlighting the Assembly’s efforts to support governance and development in Adamawa State.
