A powerful wave of solidarity surged through the Aba Road area of Port Harcourt on Friday as hundreds of women, identifying themselves as mothers and wives, took to the streets to demand the reinstatement of suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.
The demonstration, aptly titled “Bring Back Our Fubara,” was marked by fervent chants and colorful placards emblazoned with slogans such as “Bring back Fubara,” “Save our democracy,” and “God of justice, arise for Rivers State.”
The protesters, who began their march at Isaac Boro Park before making their way to the Rivers State Government House, carried a heartfelt message directed at President Bola Tinubu, urging him to lift the suspension imposed on Fubara and restore democratic governance in the state.

As the crowd swelled, the women expressed their collective frustration over what they deemed an “unconstitutional military rule masked as a state of emergency.” They emphasized that the residents of Rivers State deserve better than what they described as an undemocratic arrangement that undermines their rights and aspirations.

In an interview with Channels Television, protest leaders articulated their concerns about the ongoing political crisis. “We are a peaceful people and do not deserve this kind of injustice,” one protester stated. “The governor has been doing his job despite the distractions. What is happening now is not democracy.”
The demonstration maintained a peaceful atmosphere, with women of all ages participating in the march. Protest leaders insisted that their movement transcends political affiliations, focusing instead on defending the democratic values and future of Rivers State.
“We are here to defend our votes and the sanctity of our democracy. This is beyond Fubara; it’s about justice and the future of Rivers.”
