A devastating bomb explosion rocked Mairari village in Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno State on Saturday, claiming the lives of nine people. The blast, caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) planted at a local bus stop, occurred around 11 a.m., leaving several others injured.

Rt. Hon. Abdulkarim Lawan, Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, confirmed the tragic incident, stating, “It is unfortunate that nine of my resilient constituents were killed by planted IEDs while waiting to board vehicles at a local bus stop in Mairari village.”
He expressed his condolences, praying for the souls of the deceased to find peace and for the swift recovery of those receiving treatment in hospitals in Monguno and Maiduguri.
Lawan highlighted the recurring attacks in the region, noting that Mairari village, which had been resettled twice with full civil authority, has once again been deserted due to renewed Boko Haram and ISWAP activities.
He explained that displaced residents, now taking refuge in Monguno, Guzamala, and Maiduguri, frequently return to Mairari to farm, only to be targeted by terrorists who planted the IEDs at the bus stop.

The Speaker called on the military and security agencies to intensify efforts to restore security in Guzamala, particularly in Gudumbali, the council headquarters, and Mairari, areas long plagued by insurgent control.
Efforts to reach Nahum Daso, spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, for comment were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to calls or messages.
This incident follows another deadly attack in Borno State reported on May 29, 2025, by Tgnews. In Marte, nine members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) were killed in an ambush by suspected Boko Haram or ISWAP insurgents.
The attack, which occurred on May 27, saw insurgents launch a fierce assault on CJTF positions. Despite repelling the attackers, the CJTF members triggered an IED while attempting to recover a fallen comrade, resulting in the deaths of nine members. Several civilians captured during the attack were also brutally executed by the insurgents.
The recurring violence underscores the ongoing security challenges in Borno State, with calls for urgent action to protect vulnerable communities from terrorist attacks.
