Announced on April 22, 2025, the policy is part of the state’s broader commitment to improving the quality of life for its residents, particularly those with special needs. The distinctive number plates will allow authorities to better enforce disability-friendly policies, such as reserved parking spaces and priority access in public areas.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in a statement, emphasized the importance of the initiative, saying, “This is a step toward ensuring that every Lagosian, regardless of physical ability, can navigate our city with dignity and ease. We are building an inclusive Lagos for all.”
