The federal government has announced that motorists using the Abuja-Keffi-Akwanga-Makurdi Highway will now pay tolls ranging from N500 for saloon cars to N1,600 for multi-axle vehicles. This decision was made public by the Minister of Works, Sen. David Umahi, during the official inauguration of the new tolling regime at Garaku Toll Station, Nasarawa State.

The funds generated from the tolls will be used for the maintenance of federal roads nationwide. The 227.2km road project was funded by a $460.8 million loan from the China Eximbank.

Commercial light vehicles, will enjoy a 50 per cent discount

The toll order/fee schedule for the highway has been gazetted as follows:

– Saloon Cars: N500

– SUVs/Jeeps: N800

– Minibuses: N1000

-Multi-axle vehicles: N1,600

Frequent road users, such as commercial light vehicles, will enjoy a 50 per cent discount. However, police, military vehicles, and essential service vehicles are exempt from paying tolling fees on the road.

The project is expected to generate much-needed revenue for the maintenance and expansion of federal roads, and it is a pivotal step towards a more efficient and sustainable road transport system in the country.
