According to an internal police wireless message, Dominion was playing with his father’s service AK-47 rifle, which had been negligently cocked and left without the safety on. Unaware of the weapon’s state, Dominion pulled the trigger from behind his father, fatally hitting him in the spine. The bullet also struck his youngest brother, Emmanuel, aged 6, who sustained gunshot injuries.

Both victims were rushed to Amaku Specialist Teaching Hospital, Awka, where Inspector Amechi was pronounced dead on arrival. Emmanuel is currently responding to treatment for his injuries. The weapon has been secured, and the case has been sent to the Central Police Station in Awka for investigation.
