In a significant move to streamline governance and reduce costs, President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council (FEC) have scrapped and merged several ministries and agencies. The decisions were made at today’s FEC meeting in Abuja.

The Niger Delta Ministry has been abolished, with its functions absorbed into the newly created Ministry of Regional Development. This ministry will oversee regional development commissions, including the Niger Delta Development Commission, North West Development Commission, South West Development Commission, and North East Development Commission.

Additionally, the Ministry of Sports Development has been scrapped, with its responsibilities transferred to the National Sports Commission.

The Ministry of Tourism will be merged with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy to form a single entity, promoting synergy and efficiency in the tourism and culture sectors.

These reforms aim to enhance efficiency, reduce duplication of functions, and promote better service delivery. The move is part of the federal government’s efforts to restructure and rationalize its agencies, parastatals, and commissions.
