This move is seen as a blatant act of disrespect and embarrassment to the Nigerian government, and the WAYC is giving the Canadian embassy an ultimatum of three weeks to issue a formal apology. If the embassy fails to do so, the WAYC will mobilize protests to express their discontent over the humiliation inflicted on the senior military officers.

The incident has sparked outrage, with many seeing it as a significant level of disregard for the nation’s military leadership. The CDS, who also serves as the Defence Chief of the entire West African region, was invited to attend an official event honoring war veterans, only to be denied the necessary visas by the Canadian embassy.

Suspend the operations of the Canadian embassy in Nigeria until the Canadian government apologizes for this shameful incident

The WAYC is urging the Nigerian government to suspend the operations of the Canadian embassy in Nigeria until the Canadian government apologizes for this shameful incident.

This is not the first time that a diplomatic issue has arisen due to the actions of a foreign embassy. For example, the African National Congress (ANC) Youth League recently called for the suspension of the operations of the e-hailing service, Bolt, in South Africa, following reports of a driver stabbing two women passengers.

However, the WAYC’s demand for an apology from the Canadian embassy is a unique case, and it will be interesting to see how the situation unfolds. The WAYC has commended the CDS and his team for their maturity and restraint throughout this episode, and it remains to be seen whether the Canadian embassy will issue a formal apology to resolve the issue.
