The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended Wasiu Akinwande, alias Olori Eso, a 44-year-old notorious hired killer and gang leader described as the most wanted criminal in Lagos in recent times. The arrest, executed on Friday, June 20, 2025, followed a meticulously coordinated operation codenamed “Silence, Speed, and Surprise” by the Command’s Tactical Squad in Agbado, Ogun State.

According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, Akinwande has been terrorizing Mushin and its environs for over a decade, leading multiple armed gangs involved in murder, cult-related violence, armed robbery, and kidnappings.

“This serial killer suspect is the most wanted in Lagos history in recent times,” Hundeyin stated, emphasizing the suspect’s role as the head of a killer gang and cultist kingpin.

The police recovered a substantial cache of weapons from Akinwande’s residence, including nine sophisticated firearms, ammunition, magazines, a dagger, walkie-talkies, and nine international passports belonging to different individuals. The suspect reportedly confessed to using these items for his criminal operations.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, hailed the arrest as a landmark achievement, attributing it to years of intelligence gathering, sustained surveillance, and inter-state pursuit.

He has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to lead a team of elite detectives to broaden the investigation and apprehend all accomplices linked to Akinwande.

Four families have already identified Akinwande as the suspect behind the killings of their loved ones, underscoring the extent of his alleged crimes. The police are urging anyone with information about Akinwande’s activities to come forward as investigations continue.

This arrest marks a major victory in the fight against violent crime in Lagos, bringing relief to communities long plagued by Olori Eso’s reign of terror.
