In a significant cabinet reshuffle move, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, the respected chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, as the new Minister of State for Finance.

The nomination replaces Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, who is being redeployed to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State. This marks her third portfolio assignment within the Tinubu administration.
President Tinubu formally conveyed the nomination to the Senate in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, seeking confirmation for Mr. Oyedele’s appointment.
Mr. Oyedele, a native of Ikaram in Akoko, Ondo State, is a 50-year-old economist, chartered accountant, and public policy expert widely credited with leading transformative changes to Nigeria’s tax system.
Until this nomination, he chaired the high-profile Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, which spearheaded a comprehensive overhaul aimed at simplifying taxation, boosting revenue, and easing the burden on citizens and businesses.
His professional background spans over two decades at PwC, where he joined in 2001 and advanced to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader.
Oyedele holds a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accountancy and Finance from Yaba College of Technology, a BSc in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University, and has completed executive education at prestigious institutions including the London School of Economics, Yale University, Gordon Institute of Business Science, and Harvard Kennedy School.
Beyond his corporate and advisory roles, Oyedele serves as a professor at Babcock University in Ogun State and a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.
The redeployment of Dr. Uzoka-Anite to Budget and National Planning follows her prior stints in other roles, reflecting ongoing efforts to optimize ministerial placements for effective economic management.
This development comes amid Nigeria’s ongoing fiscal and tax reform agenda, where Oyedele’s expertise is expected to strengthen coordination between finance policy execution and revenue generation.
The Senate is expected to commence screening and confirmation processes in due course.
