President Bola Tinubu has cancelled his scheduled nationwide broadcast for Nigeria’s 26th Democracy Day anniversary. Instead, he will deliver his address during a joint session of the National Assembly on Thursday, June 12, 2025.

According to a statement by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations, the cancellation is due to President Tinubu’s scheduled attendance at the joint session.
“Due to H.E. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR’s scheduled attendance at the National Assembly Joint Session, the Presidential National Broadcast on June 12 has been cancelled,” the statement read.
The President is expected to address Nigerians directly from the National Assembly chambers during the joint session. Other Democracy Day activities will proceed as previously announced, including a public lecture scheduled for 4:00 pm at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.
This development marks a change in the President’s schedule for the Democracy Day celebration, which commemorates Nigeria’s 26 years of uninterrupted democracy.
