President Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday, held a meeting with the governors of the All Progressives Congress to discuss the choice of running mate for the ruling party’s presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

The meeting held at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Kebbi governor and chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Atiku Bagudu, led his colleagues into the meeting with President Buhari.

Also present at the meeting were Chief of Staff to the President, Prof Ibrahim Gambari; Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai and his Borno State counterpart, Prof Babagana Zulum.

The Bola Tinubu campaign organisation had last week said the APC governors were free to choose a running mate for Tinubu.

Spokesman of the campaign organisation, Bayo Onanuga, said any geo-political zone and religion could produce Tinubu’s running.

Onanuga had said, The vice-president can come from any region and religion. But the PGF is at liberty to pick. Up till now, we are all aware that Atiku has not chosen a VP.

“Yet, he was elected before him. But in our own case, it is a party affair.

“The party leaders will look at the chances and decide how they will balance a Muslim from the south, maybe with somebody that comes from north-east, north-central or from north-west.

“That is how it is done. I cannot circumvent the party.”
