President Muhammadu Buhari has reiterated his administration’s commitment toward providing, security, social amenities and quick intervention to Nigerian communities in order to transform the country.
He stated this during the Commissioning and handing over of Erosion and Flood Control Works at Jalingo Metropolis, Taraba State Capital.
Represented by the Hon. Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development Hajiya Aisha Alhasan said, the project which was carried out at Kofar Pada, Kofar Shettima and Kasuwan Yalwa all in Turaki “A” ward of Jalingo local government area of the state is expected to check flooding and erosion menace in the benefiting Communities.
He charged Nigerians to imbibe the culture of maintenance for the development of their areas as well as the progress of the country.
In a keynote address, the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development Hajiya Aisha Alhasan explained that, the project is one out of the 26 ecological intervention projects nationwide for the first quarter of 2017 and was awarded by the Ecological Fund Office Tenders Board on 30th of May last year, with a completion period of six months.
She expressed optimism that the project will no doubt bring a huge relief to the Communities around it’s area, which according to her for a very long time they have been stressed by these ecological challenges.
Senator Aisha Alhasan however, called on the youths of the benefiting Communities to Jealously guard the project and desist from dumping refuse inside the drainage to avoid further degradation in the surrounding communities.
In an address, Pamernent Secretary, Ecological Fund Office, office of the SGF, Hajiya Habiba Lawan who was represented by the Deputy Director Position Control Alhaji Abubakar Sulaiman Tukuma, commended the the contractor for ensuring the completion of the project in line with the project implementation Schedule.
He advised Members of the benefiting Communities to discourage dumping of refuse in the drains, so as to avoid jeopardizing the objective of the project.
Responding unbehslf of the benefiting communities, Ward Head of the area Alhaji Bala Lion described the project as timely, and thanked the Federal Government for the gesture as well as the Minister of Women Affairs for her effort toward ensuring the success of the project, while he promised to ensure the maintenance of it.
Our Correspondent observed that there was no representative of the Taraba State government at the occasion.
