Building Collapse in Jigawa Claims One Life, Injures Seven

A tragic building collapse in Kabak village, Kirikasamma Local Government Area, claimed one life and injured seven people around midnight on September 6, 2025. The collapse, attributed to structural weaknesses exacerbated by continuous rainfall, has prompted urgent calls for safety inspections across the region.

Musa Muhammad Hadejia, Information Officer for Kirikasamma Local Government Council, confirmed the incident. “Seven people sustained serious injuries, and sadly, we lost one person,” he stated. Five victims are receiving treatment at a local hospital, while two have been treated and discharged. The council is closely monitoring the situation and providing support to those affected.

Honourable Muhammad Marma, Chairman of Kirikasamma Local Government Council, visited the site and the injured victims on Friday. Expressing deep sympathy, he announced financial aid of ₦500,000 for medical expenses of the injured and ₦100,000 for the deceased’s family. “This is a painful loss for our community,” Marma said. “We stand with the victims and their families during this difficult time.”

Residents described a chaotic scene as emergency responders and locals worked to rescue those trapped under the rubble. “I heard a loud crashing noise and then screams,” recounted Auwalu Usman, a nearby resident. “When we rushed to the scene, we saw part of the building had completely collapsed.”

The local government has urged residents to ensure their homes’ structural integrity, especially during the rainy season, and is assessing other buildings in the area to prevent future tragedies. Community leaders and residents are calling for stricter building regulations to address the growing risks posed by heavy rainfall.
