PREAMBLE
Congress of Northern Nigeria Christians (CNNC) under the able leadership of Professor Adamu Baikie, CON, ably represented by Elder Steven Bangoji, convened a national Inter-Ethnic Peace Conference, hosted by the FCT chapter Chairman, Engr Daniel Kadzai, to address the issue of conflict resulting from our confrontation with terrorism and ethnic conflict, the parental challenges responsible for increasing criminal activities threatening the peace of Individuals and of our peaceful Coexistence. Participants who were representatives of their ethnic communities reported on the state of security in their communities for deliberation. The exigencies of which necessitated the positions herein in contained.
1) The conference affirmed her belief in the tradition of the faith of Abraham who entertained Angels without knowing, and her readiness to follow the same example to strangers who accepted their identity as strangers.
2) The conference condemned in very strong terms the attempts by to rewrite facts and accomodate strangers like citizens through the many back doors arrangements of; grazing routes, cattle colonies, ruga and now the National Livestock Transformation Plans.
3. The conference saw the need to urgently address clauses in our constitution, that are creating the lacuna fanning despotism and making the nation increasingly difficult to effectively govern. A constitutional review to align our constitution to the spirit of best global democratic practice is of essence. The allegiance of law enforcement officers and agencies should be to the law (i.e constitution) and not the President.
4.) The conference condemned all form of criminal activities, such as banditry, kidnapping, but in particular politically motivated thuggery which is responsible for the conflicts between Jukum and Tivs, in Benue, Taraba and many other States of the North.
5.) The Conference called on the Government to do the needful toward separating the bad eggs from the good ones among Fulanis, by making data capturing a precondition of entrance into the Nigerian territory by all who are seeking to come and graze their animals in Nigeria.
6.) The meeting calls on Government at all level to initiate and implement policies that will promote peace among all ethnic nationalities, and should refrain from policies that seeks to give the Fulani upper hand in a federation.
7.) The conference urge all participants to shun violence but reminded them of their constitutional right to self defence from those who think they have the monopoly of violence.
8.) The conference agreed on the need to urgently call for a similar conference of all christians traditional ruler in the North.
CONCLUSION
The Congress of Northern Nigeria Christians expressed appreciations to all ethnic nationalities who participated in the Conference, Individuals, particularly our spiritual fathers and organisations who contributed to the success of Inter-Ethnic Oeace Conference, Abuja 2019.
