The Bwatiye Youth Wing Worldwide has fiercely condemned the Nigerian Army over the alleged unprovoked shooting of unarmed civilian women in Lamurde town, Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State, describing the incident as “barbaric, unprofessional, and a blatant violation of human rights.”
In a statement released on Sunday, the youth organisation claimed that soldiers opened fire on peaceful female protesters, killing no fewer than seven women and leaving several others with life-threatening injuries.
The shooting reportedly took place while state-brokered peace talks were still ongoing to resolve a lingering communal crisis in the area.
The crisis in question began on 7 July 2025 when suspected Tsobo (Pire) militants launched coordinated attacks on Waduku and Rigange villages, resulting in multiple deaths, the destruction of homes, and the razing of entire settlements.
Despite Lamurde town itself not being directly affected by the violence, residents had taken to the streets in protest when the military intervention turned deadly.
“While negotiations facilitated by the Adamawa State Government were actively in progress, soldiers suddenly turned their weapons on innocent, unarmed women who were exercising their constitutional right to peaceful assembly,” the statement read.
“This excessive and unjustifiable use of lethal force raises serious questions about impartiality, discipline, and adherence to rules of engagement.”
The youth wing, while reiterating its respect for the Nigerian Army as a national institution, accused the personnel involved of bias and a gross breach of peacekeeping protocols.
The group has demanded immediate action from the Federal Government of Nigeria, the Adamawa State Government, the Nigerian Military High Command, and Amnesty International and other human rights organisations.
calling for a swift, transparent, and independent investigation, as well as the prosecution of any officers found responsible.
The Bwatiye Youth Wing Worldwide further urged authorities to accelerate genuine reconciliation efforts, rebuild broken trust between communities and security forces, and ensure that troops deployed for peacekeeping operate with fairness and respect for human life.
“We remain steadfast in our pursuit of peace, justice, and the protection of every law-abiding citizen, regardless of ethnic or religious affiliation,” the statement concluded.

As at the time of filing this report, the Nigerian Army has not issued an official response to the allegations.
