The members of the Birnin Kudu Youth Association (BYA) has commenced planting of no fewer than 2,150 varieties of assorted tree seedlings at the premises of the new site of the Federal Medical Center located in Birnin Kudu in Jigawa State.
Malam Kabiru Ya’u, the association chairman made this known in Birnin Kudu on Thursday during the formal commencement of the tree planting at the premises of the hospital.

He said the trees included 300 each of seedlings of Cashew,Mahogany,and 250 Casier trees,200 plantations and 30 seedlings of Ukila trees.
He said others were 20 seedlings of termarind and 500 Sandals,saying our decision to embark on this project was aimed at conserving the environment .
Ya’u,explained that the initiative would prevent desertification,erosion and promote friendly and conducive environment to patients and all those who patronise the health facility.
According to him,the association was targeting to plant 10,000 varieties of trees within the medical center in the next four years, adding that we had planted about 4,800 trees in Birnin Kudu General Hospital.
He added that the group had also planted 700 trees at the premises of the College of Nursing Birnin Kudu and 80 at the Primary Health Care Clinic in Yalwan Damai District in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area.
“We had planted thousands of trees within Birnin Kudu metropolis but to our dismay many of them were allowed to decay due to poor nursery process.
The chairman, has commended the Jigawa state government and specifically the State Commissioner of environment Dr Nura Dandoka Salisu for providing free seedlings to the association.
“We are doing this project in collaboration with the State ministry of environment hence the secret of our success” he said.
In his remarks, the Medical Director of the medical Center Dr Adamu Abdullahi Atterwahmie,represented by Dr Yunus Mohammed Eze, has commended the association for the wonderful initiative.
He described the initiative as unprecedented in the history of the facility while urging the group to sustain the tempo,saying tree planting was a great service to humanity and all those who plant trees would reap the dividend both here and the here after.
He specifically commended the Birnin Kudu community which play host to the medical center for their usual cooperation and understanding to the center,saying we are specially grateful to the community .
Malam Aminu Ado Taura,the head of the center environment department has assured that the trees would be adequately maintain.
He said his department would ensure regular watering and treatment of the planted trees to ensure that they survive,saying many of us here may not lived to see the trees bear fruits or grown to a shelter.
Responding, the district head of Birnin Kudu, represented by Barden Birnin Kudu Alhaji Adamu Muazu has described planting of trees as long term investment that would provide limitless reward to those who initiated it.
He assured that the community would continue to support the medical center while appreciating the open door policy of the management of the center,saying the medical Director has been a very honest and consistent personality very hardworking.
