Eighty six Housing units foundation for the Internally displaced persons (IDPs) was laid in Jambi-Lamba,a superb area under Girei Local Government of Adamawa State by the Catholic Bishop of Yola Diocese,Stephen Dami Mamza.
The foundation laying ceremony was done amidst Many Reverend fathers of the Catholic Church where Mamza revealed that the housing unit by the church is to assist the IDPs who have been camped for over five years at the Church’s premises to a place they can be resettled permanently.
Our correspondence who was at the foundation laying ceremony reports that Dami, who doubles as the State CAN Chairman said the villages of the IDPs under the Catholic watch are still “unsafe” for their return due to incessant activities of Boko Haram insurgents.
He stressed that it is his hope and prayers that the housing units will be ready for occupy by the IDPs before the next rainy season.
While attributing the intervention to a German based Missio organization, Stephen further said each blocks of the housing unit will accommodate two households
He described missio”as the strongest partners that have been supporting Yola Diocese for the past fifty years, appealing to well meaning individuals and organisations to support the church to enable it complete the project in time.
Speaking at the occasion,the ward head of the area Mallam Dauda Tizhe thanked Bishop Mamza for intervening on the plights IDPs in Yola and called on people in the community to co-exist peacefully.
The Contractor to handle the site,Mr Christan Ileagu explained that the project work will cover forty three blocks of eighty six semi detached Housing unit.
You would recall that Catholic Church of Yola Diocese under the supervision of Mamza have been into humanity work, especially supporting and assisting displaced persons in various ways since the inception of insurgency with people leaving their original place of living.
The eighty six housing units other sources is however revealed that it is not only for Catholic Church members,it is to housed many people from other denominations and religion.
