In what many have described as a turning point for football development in Adamawa State, renowned philanthropist and sports enthusiast, Chief Dr. Maurice Vunobolki, has donated football equipment worth over ₦10 million to Adamawa United Football Club.
The presentation, held at the club’s training ground, was met with thunderous applause from players, technical staff, and supporters, marking one of the most significant private contributions to a professional football team in recent Nigerian history.
For Adamawa United—currently pushing to consolidate their place in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL)—the timing of this donation could not be more strategic. The equipment, which includes 8 full sets of jerseys, 40 boundary poles, agility ladders, shin guards, corner flags, gloves, socks, and 12 match balls, among others, will drastically improve the team’s training quality, matchday preparations, and overall professionalism.
Beyond the NPFL, club officials are confident that this boost will enhance their competitive edge in continental tournaments, as Adamawa United continues to dream big—eyeing qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup in the near future.
Team Manager, Barr. Ijamul Emmanuel Tsamdu, described the gesture as “a historic moment for the club’. He states that what Chief Vunobolki has done goes beyond material donation; he has injected belief, dignity, and renewed motivation into the team. His support gives us the resources to train like professionals and competes at the highest levels in Nigeria and Africa.”
Tsamdu praised Vunobolki’s unwavering commitment to sports, describing him as “a charismatic leader and bona fide lover of the game.” He added that Vunobolki’s passion for youth and sports development is restless. People like him are rare in Adamawa and his generosity is a model for others to emulate.”
The Club Secretary, Dr. Yusuf Chidama, echoed similar sentiments, noting that Vunobolki has been a consistent pillar of support to the club: “This is not the first time he has stepped forward. He was instrumental in ensuring our home games were hosted at Makwada Square in Numan, which also serves as a hub for the Nigeria Women Football League and the National League.”
He added that the donation is a wake-up call and will set a new standard for community and private sector involvement in sports development.
