Christian Lawyers, Journalists Back Gov Bala Mohammed on Sayawa Chiefdom, Urge Caution Amid Controversy

A group of Christian lawyers and journalists in Bauchi State has commended Governor Bala Mohammed for taking bold steps to create the Sayawa Chiefdom, a move aimed at bringing lasting peace and development to the marginalized Sayawa people. The Joint Assembly of Christian Lawyers and Journalists (JACLJ) praised the governor’s decision, which has been applauded by many Nigerians, particularly ethnic groups and peace-loving citizens.

The group, however, called for caution amid controversy over the siting of the chiefdom’s headquarters in Tafawa Balewa town. In a statement, JACLJ noted that the governor’s kind gesture has generated unnecessary uproar, particularly from some Islamic groups and clerics. The group urged those aggrieved to seek redress through appropriate channels rather than resorting to personal attacks and criticism.

JACLJ also appealed for unity and peace among Nigerians, particularly in Bauchi State, and urged traditional leaders, interest groups, and religious leaders to eschew bitterness and promote harmony. The group’s stance is backed by the National Coalition of Christian Youths in Politics (NACOCYP), which has expressed support for Governor Mohammed’s decision to create the Za’ar Sayawa Chiefdom.
