In a remarkable achievement, an Iowa-based non-profit organization, Equipping The Persecuted, has successfully reduced Christian persecution deaths in Nigeria by 39 percent. This significant decline in deaths is attributed to the organization’s proactive security alerts, which enabled villagers to take necessary precautions and blunt attacks.
According to community spokesmen, the number of deaths in village massacres decreased from 8,222 in 2023 to 5,023 in 2024.
The organization’s new news site, played a critical role in issuing highly accurate terror alerts, with a 96.9 percent precision rate. At least 62 of 65 alerts that warned of village attacks were predictive, allowing villagers to take proactive measures to protect themselves. The terror alerts also facilitated the Nigerian military’s quicker response to incidents in 2024.
Village leaders in Plateau State credited TruthNigeria’s candid coverage of attacks with motivating Nigerian Army units to maintain a stronger presence in dangerous areas. The situation in Nigeria is dire, with the country suffering a Christian genocide. The Observatory of Religious Freedom in Africa reported that 55,000 civilians, half of them Christian, were killed in targeted attacks between 2019 and 2023. Amnesty International documented over 1,336 murders in Plateau State alone from December 2023 to February 2024.
