Statement:
On Behalf of the Zion College of Bishops International I wish to say Merry Christmas to Christians and believers in Nigeria and across the world.
The season has come again when believers reckon and celebrate the birth of Yeshua the Messiah. It was the mystery of Godliness that Mary who knew no man was endued with power to conceive the Messiah, God took on human flesh and salvaged the world from eternal destruction, salvation is opened unto whosoever that believed, what a love divine from the creator of the universe.
The birth of Christ is a mystery that we cannot comprehend in flesh because the work itself is not of the flesh but of the spirit. Those who say Christ is human are right and those who say he is God are equally right, for he was both God and man, that the work of redemption might be complete.
As much as he operated as human during his walk on earth, he was never devoid of his status as a deity. To the Jews he said “before Abraham was, I am”, all the prophets that were sent, said, “talk says the lord…”, as they declared their message, but when the Lord Himself came in human flesh with the work of redemption, he said, “verily, verily I say unto you…”, this is evident, when the word of God says, we have received the word of God with more certainty.
The birth of Christ is a very special event to all mankind, it was a virgin birth that was announced by angels, attended by shepherds, and acknowledged by wise men. As much as the celebration of Christmas is not commanded in the bible, it is also not prohibited. It is part of our worship and appreciation to God for redeeming us from eternal destruction.
Beloved, Christmas is beyond the feast we all looked up to, it is a moment to reflect on the redemptive work of God, it is an opportunity to draw closer to the cross by appreciating God’s final work for the redemption of mankind.
The birth of Christ is God’s highest demonstration of love to mankind, as we celebrate this Christmas, may we demonstrate our love for God and our fellow men irrespective of tribe, race, and religion.
I enjoin believers across the Nation to seize the moment to show love to our neighbors, and love for our Nation.
As we look up to Christmas, the New Year is sharply behind the scenes, this is one of the most crucial Christmas celebrations for our nation because we as a people, are confronted with the challenge of producing a new set of leaders that will be responsible for stirring and paddling political affairs of our nation. We must do this prayerfully and carefully, not to use greed and sentiment to betray the future.
I enjoined Christians across the nation to vote for competence and political leaders that will serve the nation without religious sentiment, and segregation of any kind. Vote for leaders that have the capacity to move our nation forward, our country has suffered a lot from poverty and hardship, we must use this opportunity to make a change that will mean well for all Nigerians.
Political leaders who seek power must put God first, and humanity above all other consideration. They must demonstrate the maturity to accept victory or lost at the end of the struggles.
We must be careful not to allow our divergent choices to divide and to set us against one another. We are, and we will continue to be Nigerians before the election, during the election and after the election. Elections are designed to serve us; may it never be the reason why we will take away the lives of our fellow humans. May God help us to discharge our electoral duties with the spirit of statesmanship and sportsmanship, may the 2023 election bring more joy and hope to our country Nigeria.
