The Jukun Youths Cultural Development Association has called on the Taraba state government to collaborate with security agencies in order to bring an end insecurity, especially kidnapping and farmers/headers crisis in the southern part.
Speaking at a Press briefing in Jalingo, the state capital, the President of the Jukun the Association, Mr. Nafinji Danjuma expressed worried over the increasing rate of kidnapping in the area.
He lamented that the issue of kidnapping in Wukari LGA have at the moment started changing for the worse with the renewed and escalating cases of the crime and other forms of banditry activities in the area.
The President also stressed that on the 5th February, 2021 at precisely 7:30pm, along by-gya village on the Wukari road, some suspected fulani armed bandits blocked the road and abducted 6 persons but 2 escaped from the kidnappers.
Mr. Nafinji Danjuma noted that one of the victims, a Sharon Driver who was later released said, ransom was paid along the Ibi-Chinkai river bank before his released.
He informed that the victim who identified the kidnappers as fulani herdsmen said, two of the victims were still in their custody.
Danjuma further stated that on Saturday 6th March, 2021 evening time at Wana village, suspected fulani bandits attacked 4 chain- saw operators and kidnapped two of them.
“Also on Monday 8th March 2021, activities of some herdsmen nearly escalated to serious crisis if not for the timely intervention of the Chairman of Wukari local government and the security operatives.
This incident occurred in Kakhi, a settlement near bye-Pyi village along Wukari-Jalingo road following an argument between farmers and fulani herdsmen over grazing on cassava farm and yam seedlings belonging to one Bawa Sallah.
It later resulted to serious misunderstanding where the fulani herdsmen used machete and injured a Tiv man who was working on his farm” he said.
The President maintained that the leaders of the Jukun youth cultural development association and other law abiding citizens are deeply worried and concerned about the ugly and the unfortunate development.
According to him, this trend if not urgently addressed may likely affect the socio economic development of Wukari and its environs.
Reacting to the concern expressed by the association, the state Commissioner for Information and Reorientation, Barr. Danjuma Adamu described it as an alarm raised on the right time which Governor Darius Ishaku is doing a lot on the area of security and will redouble efforts in collaborating with security agencies in the state.
On his part in a telephone interview, the Police Public Relations Officer, Taraba State Police Command, ASP Meha Reform reiterated the command’s commitment under CP Muhammed Azare towards protecting lives and properties of the citizens of the state.
