Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has reviewed the curfew imposed on the communities of Lafiya and Boshikiri in the two Local Government areas of Lamurde and Guyuk following renewed clashes in the area last month.
“It is exactly one month today that I directed the imposition of curfew on Lafiya and Boshikiri as well as the surrounding villages of Mumseri, Mere, Kupte, and Zakawon following the unfortunate breach of peace even after repeated attempts to broker peace in those Communities.”
Fintiri’s Press Secretary, Mr. Humwashi Wonosikou in a statement said the curfew which was 5 pm to 6 am is now eased to commence from 9 pm to 6 am daily and the review takes immediate effect.
“The development is as a result of the relative peace that has returned to the area.”
The government on June 8th, 2022 imposed a curfew on the two local Councils to ensure a return to peace adopting the procedure as a remedy to achieving the desired peace even after recurring communal clashes in the area.
Governor Fintiri added that “Security agencies should continue to discharge their duties and residents are urged to cooperate with them to maintain the status of Adamawa State as one of the most peaceful especially during the Sallah break.”
He appealed to residents not to encourage any action that may turn back the clock, but to keep living in harmony and strengthen the unity and peaceful co-existence the people are known for.
