Conflict Merchants Will Be Dealt with Mercilessly – Uba Sani

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has declared zero tolerance for “conflict merchants” who seek to undermine peace and security in the state through misinformation and incitement.

The governor made the statement on Monday, March 2, 2026, while hosting heads of security agencies to an Iftar – the breaking of the Ramadan fast at dusk – at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House in Kaduna.

Describing Kaduna as a “diverse and delicate” polity, Sani emphasized that freedom of speech should not be used as a cover to spread fake news, rumours, or deliberate falsehoods that could lead to violence, loss of lives, and destruction of property.

He welcomed constructive criticism from the opposition but warned against those who deliberately peddle lies to incite crisis, particularly in the name of politics.

“We will deal with conflict merchants who want to disrupt the present peace in Kaduna State in the name of politics, within the ambit of the law,” Sani stated firmly.

The governor commended the security agencies for their ongoing collaboration, noting that Kaduna has not recorded any ethno-religious crisis since he assumed office. He urged them to remain vigilant, enhance intelligence gathering at the grassroots level in partnership with local government chairmen, traditional rulers, and religious leaders, and continue working to safeguard the state’s stability.

Sani’s remarks come amid efforts to maintain harmony in a state with a history of complex communal tensions, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to peace and the rule of law.
