Coscharis Boss Laments Missing Out on Flutterwave Investment as Fintech Giant Celebrates 10th Anniversary

Dr. Cosmas Maduka, Founder of Coscharis Group, has expressed deep regret over not investing in fintech powerhouse Flutterwave, calling its remarkable rise one of Africa’s greatest success stories.

Speaking at Flutterwave’s 10th anniversary gala held at The Delborough Lagos—which brought together political leaders, business tycoons, and entertainment icons to mark a decade of groundbreaking operations—Maduka reflected on the company’s explosive growth.

He admitted to being surprised that he was overlooked in the early days, saying: “The only thing that surprises me is how you people bypassed me. There was no opportunity to say, ‘Uncle, can we put money together?’ I don’t like good things passing me by.”

Maduka hailed Flutterwave’s achievements as powerful evidence of Nigerians’ intellectual depth and entrepreneurial resilience, proving that innovation can thrive amid the nation’s socio-economic challenges.

He credited former President Olusegun Obasanjo for establishing the economic foundation that empowered private enterprises to flourish, emphasizing that true leadership creates enabling environments for citizens to succeed. Once such conditions exist, he said, Nigerians are fully capable of competing and winning on the global stage.

Drawing from his own inspiring story, Maduka shared how he lost his father young and ended formal education after primary school. Despite opportunities to settle abroad years ago, he chose to return and build his business in Nigeria.

“To be a true Nigerian, you must share in her shame and glory,” he declared.

He urged young Nigerians to move beyond seeking paid jobs, warning: “Salary is medicine for poverty; it does not cure it.” Instead, he encouraged them to build enterprises that generate value and create employment opportunities.

Maduka praised Flutterwave’s Founder and CEO, Olugbenga Agboola, for projecting Nigeria positively worldwide. He also commended Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for championing innovation-led initiatives.

Ultimately, he noted that ventures like Flutterwave show that real success comes from performance and results, not mere rhetoric.
