Couple Loses Two Young Children in Devastating Fire Disaster in Ondo

A devastating fire has claimed the lives of two young siblings, aged three and five, in a tragic incident that has left a family and community in shock. The fire broke out in the family’s apartment on Church Street, Oluwatuyi Quarters, Akure, the capital of Ondo State, around 3:30 p.m. while their mother was out buying food. The children were left locked in the room, and despite the quick spread of the fire, neighbors were unaware that they were inside until it was too late.

According to eyewitnesses, the children’s cries for help were initially mistaken for routine disciplinary sounds from their mother, and it wasn’t until the fire was extinguished that the horrific truth was discovered. The bodies of the two young children were found at the apartment’s entrance, and police from the ‘B’ Division in Akure later removed the remains.

The incident has left the family and community in a state of shock and grief. The father, upon hearing the devastating news, reportedly collapsed and was rushed to the hospital. The police spokesperson, CSP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, confirmed that the children died from suffocation and burns, and an investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.

This tragic incident highlights the importance of fire safety and the need for families to take precautions to prevent such disasters.
