A Federal High Court sitting in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital, on Friday, ruled that former President Goodluck Jonathan is eligible to participate in the 2023 presidential race.
The presiding judge, Justice Isa Hamma Dashen gave the ‘landmark’ ruling on the eve of the ruling All Progressives Congress’ presidential primary election.
The court also held that Jonathan’s right to contest the office of president of Nigeria again cannot be hindered by any retroactive law.
Recall that a Fulani group recently purchased the N100million APC nomination forms for Jonathan.
But his eligibility for the 2023 presidential race had generated heated arguments amongst different sections of the country.
The court, on Friday, however, ruled that the former president can still re-contest for the number one political office in Nigeria.
Recall that Jonathan as incumbent president, lost the 2015 election to President Muhammadu Buhari.
