A fresh crisis has engulfed the National Democratic Coalition (NDC) in Adamawa State following allegations of widespread irregularities in the conduct of the party’s recent congresses, with the protem state chairman strongly rejecting the outcome of the exercise.

In a press statement issued after the congresses held last Saturday, the protem chairman described the process as a “brazen violation” of agreed guidelines, accusing a faction of newly admitted members of orchestrating what he termed an internal “coup” to seize control of the party structure.
He expressed concern that the actions of the group undermined the party’s foundational principles at a time it is positioning itself as a credible alternative for the electorate.
The statement highlighted that the congresses allegedly disregarded prior resolutions reached with the party’s national leadership, including a directive that the protem chairman should remain in office and that executive positions be shared equally between longstanding members and new entrants.
According to him, the exercise failed to reflect this agreed 50-50 arrangement, thereby breaching a consensus intended to ensure fairness and unity within the party.
Further allegations pointed to procedural lapses, including the exclusion of duly constituted Local Congress Committees mandated by the national headquarters and the selective recognition of party officials, which he said eroded inclusiveness.
He also raised concerns over reports that the protem leadership was unilaterally altered during the process.
The protem chairman maintained that the congresses lacked the consent and endorsement of key stakeholders in the state, urging party members and the public to disregard their outcome.
He reaffirmed the faction’s commitment to internal democracy, due process, and peaceful dispute resolution, noting that steps are being taken to address the situation through appropriate channels.
The development signals deepening internal tensions within the NDC in Adamawa, raising questions about cohesion within the party as it seeks to consolidate its presence in the state’s political landscape.
