The Daily Trust Foundation has organized a three-day training program for over 25 journalists from the six states in the North East region.
The workshop, supported by the MacArthur Foundation, aims to enhance the skills of media practitioners in tracking budgets and conducting investigative journalism.
Chairman of the Foundation, Malam Bilya Bala, emphasized the importance of journalists going beyond government pronouncements to track the implementation of budgets and hold authorities accountable. He encouraged participants to report back to the public on budget performance, providing evidence and promoting transparency.

The training is part of the Media Trust Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, demonstrating the organization’s commitment to supporting journalists in their critical role of promoting accountability and good governance.
Gombe State Commissioner for Information, Mijinyawa Ardo Tilde, represented the governor at the event and highlighted the state government’s efforts to engage with civil society organizations, traditional rulers, and communities in assessing needs and implementing projects.
