Dangote Cement Targets Bold Leap to 90 Million Tonnes Capacity by 2030, Vows Full Self-Sufficiency in Africa’s Cement Needs

In a powerful reaffirmation of its pan-African vision, Dangote Cement Plc has declared its unwavering commitment to making the continent fully self-sufficient in cement production, ending reliance on costly imports and fueling a new era of industrial growth and infrastructure development.

Group Managing Director Arvind Pathak delivered the ambitious pledge during a recent strategic briefing on the company’s aggressive expansion plans.

He highlighted Dangote Cement’s role as Africa’s leading cement producer and outlined accelerated investments to bridge supply gaps across key markets.

“Our vision is clear — to ensure Africa produces enough cement to meet its own needs,” Pathak stated.

“Through continuous expansion, operational excellence, and a strong distribution network, we are positioning Dangote Cement to power growth across the continent. We are not just building a business; we are building Africa’s future.”

The company is targeting a massive production capacity of *90 million metric tonnes per annum by 2030, a goal that would significantly outpace current output and position Dangote Cement among the world’s top producers.

This builds on its existing footprint, with operations spanning multiple African countries through integrated plants, grinding facilities, and distribution hubs.

Pathak pointed to Nigeria as a success story, where the company has eliminated dependence on imported cement and turned the nation into a net exporter to neighboring countries.

Ongoing initiatives include plant upgrades, capacity expansions, and adoption of energy-efficient technologies to cut costs and reduce environmental impact.

Echoing the strategic direction, company founder and President Aliko Dangote framed self-sufficiency as both an economic necessity and a shared continental duty.

“Africa has no reason to depend on cement imports,” Dangote emphasized. “We have the raw materials, the talent, and the determination. Our goal at Dangote Cement is to unlock Africa’s potential by ensuring that every nation on this continent can access affordable, high-quality cement produced within Africa. This is how we build prosperity, job opportunities, and sustainable development.”

As booming infrastructure projects—from highways and bridges to urban housing—drive surging cement demand across African cities, Dangote Cement’s push is poised to stabilize prices, improve supply reliability, and support faster, more affordable construction continent-wide.

Currently operating with a capacity of around 52 million tonnes per year across ten countries, Dangote Cement continues to lead Sub-Saharan Africa’s cement industry through innovation, sustainability, and strategic investments.
