In a historic moment for Nigeria, the Dangote Refinery has officially launched the production of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, from its 650,000 barrels per day refinery.
This milestone marks the first time Nigeria has produced fuel domestically in 28 years.
Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, described the achievement as a “transformative moment” for Nigeria, ending years of fuel imports. He praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for creating an environment that made the successful launch possible.
The refinery promises to boost the industrial and manufacturing sectors, reduce fuel imports, save foreign exchange, and contribute to stabilizing the naira, lowering inflation, and reducing the cost of living.

Dangote also announced that starting in October, there will be no need to import polypropylene, as the petrochemical plant will meet all local demands.
