The factional leader of Reformed People’s Democracy Party (rPDP) in Adamawa state, Dr Umar Ardo has called on the Senate President, Dr Ahmed Lawan to declare the seat of the defected Adamawa Northern Senator, Elisha Ishaku Abbo vacant over his recent defection from PDP to APC.
According to him the provision of Section 68(1)(g) of the constitution of the FRN 1999,as amended and the clear interpretation of the provision mandated the Senate President, Lawan owes the Nigerian State the inalienable duty to declare Abbo’s seat vacant in defence of the constitution of Nigeria.
Umar who signed a press statement and made it available to our correspondent in Yola reiterated that the oath taken by the Senate President is to protect the Constitution of the federal Republic of Nigeria.
“As a consequence of the latter’s defection from the PDP to the APC. Having sworn an oath to “protect and defend the constitution”, the Senate President is duty bound by his oath to do so if he is not fall guilty of aiding and abating the disparaging of the constitution by the senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (NFR) If the constitution, the law, rules and regulations can be compromised on the alter of political interest, then our democracy, nor our society, is imperiled by the legislature itself, the most critical element of democracy.
“No political interest can supersede the constitution without threatening the very survival of our country as a nation governed under law”. Ardo said
