Defence Headquarters Responds To Allegations Of Unjust Incarceration Of Naval Rating

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has released a statement addressing a viral video alleging the unfair imprisonment of Seaman Abbas Haruna, a Naval rating, for six years. The DHQ assures the public that the Armed Forces of Nigeria remains committed to upholding justice, fairness, and the rule of law.

According to the statement, the military court-martial process ensures fairness, equal opportunity, and justice in accordance with established military procedures and the law. In response to the allegations, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has ordered an immediate investigation into the matter.

The DHQ urges the public to exercise caution and refrain from spreading unsubstantiated information while the investigation is ongoing. The outcome of the investigation will be made public in due course.

The statement, signed by Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director Defence Information, reassures Nigerians that the Armed Forces will ensure a speedy and transparent investigation.
