Benue State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, says he has no regrets stepping on the toes of powerful individuals to bring happiness and succour to people in the state.

Governor Alia stated this on Wednesday during Democracy Day celebrations at IBB Square in Makurdi, Benue State.

He reiterated his promise to enhance the economic development and improve the welfare of the people.

Alia explained that his frantic efforts at changing the narrative where governance hitherto existed for privileged minority, had earned him enmity from the powerful minorities.

The Governor said despite the enmity, he had remained resolute because “I’m standing with the masses”.

Alia recalled that as the sixth democratically elected Governor of Benue State, his giant strides in the last one year included payment of salaries, pensions and gratuities, which were hitherto unpaid.

The Governor explained that he also undertook the construction of 50 township roads within the state capital and other locations outside the metropolis.

He disclosed his administration’s resolve to extend the road constructions to Benue South Senatorial District in the second phase of the projects.
