The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) Joint Task Force North West has launched a fresh military offensive, codenamed Operation Clean Sweep III, across Matazu Local Government Area and adjoining communities in Katsina State following the abduction and killing of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar.

The operation, which commenced on Sunday, June 14, 2026, is aimed at tracking down and neutralising the bandits responsible for the retired senior officer’s kidnap and death in captivity, while dismantling criminal networks operating within the region.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North West under Operation Fansan Yamma, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, said troops have intensified military activities through fighting patrols, intelligence-led raids, cordon-and-search operations, and clearance missions targeting identified criminal enclaves.
According to the statement, the operation has already recorded significant successes in the Dikkawa Hills, Adua, Nasarawa, and Karaduwa areas, where troops destroyed several terrorist camps, logistics bases, and support facilities used by bandit groups.
The military said the offensive forms part of ongoing efforts to restore security and stability across the North-West region, particularly in communities affected by banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes.
DHQ reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining pressure on criminal elements and ensuring that those responsible for the killing of the retired general and other acts of terrorism are brought to justice.
Residents of the affected areas have been urged to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to aid ongoing operations and strengthen efforts to rid the region of criminal activities.
