President Nigerian Internet Registration Association (NiRA), Mr. Adesola Akinsanya has disclosed that the association has registered 215,441 .ng domain names.
Adesola revealed this during the Association’s annual general meeting in Lagos and provided an overview of its growth over the previous year, stating that as of February 2024, NiRA grew its registration with an increase of over 40%.
According to him with the current NiRA local domain name registration Nigeria’s Digital Economy is equally growing as many companies already use the.ng domain name on their websites, indicating that Nigeria’s Internet country code top-level domain is becoming increasingly popular.
As disclosed by managers of the top level of NiRA, revealed that it will keep pushing for additional adoptions from businessmen and women until all Nigerian firms understand the security value of localizing their websites’ domain names.
He made that observation. as the use of Nigeria’s Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) in email addresses and websites has grown in popularity.
“The NiRA Audited Account for the year ending December 31st, 2023 records that the number of.ng domain names increased to 212,890. In addition, the outcome indicates a 29,098 rise above the 183,792 recorded in December 2022.
“With its major role in the country’s digital economy agenda, the need for both the government and private institutions to switch to the. ng brand is no longer negotiable,” Adesola said
For this reason, he commended Dr. Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, for his understanding of the need to accelerate the adoption of Nigeria’s country code top-level domain (ccTLD),.ng, both inside and outside of the government.
