District Creation: Libbo ethnic group accuses Gov Fintiri,Amna Shelleng of plans to hand over their land to settlers

The Community of Libbo ethnic nationality in Shelleng Local Government area of Adamawa state have complained of marginalization and a grand plan to take over their ancestral land to aliens.

A coalition of the Libbo people worldwide raised an accusing finger against the executive Governor of the state, Rt Hon Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Shelleng paramount traditional ruler (Amna), HRH Abdullahi Isa Dasong of conniving with other external forces from within and outside Libbo land to forcefully relegate their people.

The Libbo tribe comprises of their leaders, Elders and Youths have on behalf of the Coalition of Libbo through an official letter approached Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri and reiterated how his government is working against them by taking over their ancestral land and their traditional leadership space to handle the same to setters residing in Libbo land.

The Libbo leaders made their grievances known in a letter through their team of Lawyers and made the same available to TG NEWS from the law firm of P.M.Shagnah, Esq.

They accused Governor Fintiri of deliberately using the newly enacted District Creation law and the appointment of District Head by H.R.H. AMNA Shelleng, Alh. Abdullahi Isa Dasong ll, to achieve such an agenda that is already provoking the sensitivity of the Libbo people.

According to the leaders of the Libbo community who made joined brief to a team of Lawyers and alleged with emphasis that all complaints made written by them to amicably address all the issues through the Governor and the House of Assembly failed on deaf ears.

The Libbo leaders are represented by Rev.Innocent Dubi, Mr.Charles Zakariya, Hon. Zinas Elephant Mr.Henry Gideon and, Mr.Kalbes Kemuel expressed their readiness and commitment to the Libbo people to confront the lingering injustice and illegality being perpetrated by the Governor and Shelleng Traditional Council.

They said the position of the Government and the Shelleng traditional council is poised on constituting a state of anarchy in Libbo land.

Their letter to the Governor revealed that they have resolved to pursue the course of the Libbo nation to a logical end, with the firm belief that all hope is not lost in their quest for the emancipation of their people from settlers, external alliances, and the government strategic move to set them against other ethnic nationalities that are residing in Libbo land.

In the letter that was presented to the Adamawa state government, Libbo leaders urged Governor Umaru Fintiri to honor and respect his oath of office by adhering to the principles of fairness to all citizens irrespective of whatever affiliation that binds him with any interest or group in Libbo land.

The leaders in the letter pleaded with the Governor and the Paramount Ruler to seek an amendment of the Adamawa State District Creation Law,2022, and maintain the status quo or be willing to head to court to seek redress.

TG NEWS made several efforts to get a response from Governor Ahmadu through his Director General Media and Communications, Mr Solomon Kumangar was not possible as he couldn’t reply messages sent on his line and Whatsapp after call failed attempt.

Amna Shelleng, Dasong however said that the district creation is the prerogative of the government and it is a good development in the interest of all.

According to him it’s normal in life whenever there is rivalry between the two individuals or groups of people.

He said Libbo people are not happy that another District was created out of them, but the other group are happy that there was a development that favored them.

‘I don’t think this thing should be an issue. Nobody’s land was taken to anywhere It is the same people a district was created. I’m surprise the issue has come this far that is meant for development.

“Whatever we have done as shelleng traditional council was a directive from the government and it’s something done in good intentions by the executive Governor.

“This is what I can say jealousy over development, it’s normal with people who are not after growth. We are thanking the Governor for doing this great innovation to our people ” Dasong said
