Do all you can to generate revenue for the state-Adamawa commissioner Charges Surveyors

Adamawa state Government has charged Estate Surveyors and Valuers to lead the state towards an increased revenue drive for a flourishing infrastructural development.

The Commissioner of Lands and Survey, Chief Joab Sahma, gave the indication while declaring open,a one -day mandatory Continuing Professional Development workshop organised by Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors, Adamawa state Branch in collaboration with Estate Surveyors and Valuers Registration Board of Nigeria.

The Commissioner,who quickly said the theme of the seminar ‘Property Tax: untapped Goldmine in Adamawa’ was apt inview of the state Government drive to expand the frontiers of urban renewal projects charged the organizers to come up with a workable document that will be produced for Government to study and implement accordingly.

Joab Sahma who was visibly impressed with the target audience assured the Surveyors and Valuers of the state Government’s readiness to partner them in the areas of growth and development as well as boosting the revenue drive for the state.

The Branch Chairman of the Estate Surveyors and Valuers,Esv.Muhammad Abdullahi who said the Programme was an annual event is intended to serve as an avenue for capacity building for professionals and other actors in the real sub-sector.

According to him,it was an interactive session between the public sector, agencies, the organised sector, Captain of industries and practitioners alike.

Muhammad Abdullahi further emphasized also that this year’s Theme “PROPERTY TAX: UNTAPPED GOLDMINE IN ADAMAWA” couldn’t have come at a better time than now, when states across the nation are battling with dwindling revenues and huge expenditure to augument.

The chairman was emphatic that Property tax if properly administered in Adamawa can offer a window of opportunity to increase its revenue by a huge percentage as the area is indeed an untapped Goldmine.

Resource Persons at the seminar including Dr.Mohammed Mohamed, Professor Abdul-Azeez Isiaka Adeyemi and Dr.Hamza Usman of ATBU Bauchi in their separate Presentations on the topics;Land registration and property rating-the gains and pains, Property Taxation in relation to growth and development of Adamawa state and The role of planners I’m property development for economy growth in Adamawa’ State lamented on the declining revenue in Local governments due to overdependence on oil revenue from the Federation account which is adversely dwindling.

They emphasized that property taxation is all about property value and there must be evaluation as well as political will from the side of government at all levels.
