The National Labour Congress of Nigeria has recently chosen Joe Ajaero as its new national president.
Ajaero, previously was the general secretary of the National Union of Electricity Employees, was elected by consensus at the 13th NLC National Delegates Conference in Abuja. This marks the end of Ayuba Wabba’s presidency, which began in 2015.
In his acceptance speech, Ajaero expressed his commitment to representing the interests and desires of both workers and all Nigerians.
He promised to be the voice of the millions of people in the country and work towards lifting them out of poverty.
He pledged his loyalty to the NLC, the workers, and the country, stating that his thoughts and actions would be guided by this commitment.
However, Deji Adeyanju in his congratulatory message has also warned the newly elected President to be effective and and useful at the same time.
On his page, he said “Congratulations to the new NLC President, Comrade Ajaero. Please, don’t be useless like Ayuba Wabba. His only accomplishment as president was jumping around with politicians and top Govt officials and snapping pictures.
Although, Ajaero had stated that his leadership will aim to pursue the implementation of a new national minimum wage law. This law will take into account the current socio-economic reality and extend its coverage to include more workers.
