Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole has appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to postpone the Saturday’s governorship election in the state, adding that his party was prepared to give the Peoples Democratic Party ‘final befitting burial’

Oshiomhole said, “if it is shifting the election, it should not be too far because we are eager to bury the PDP, we have purchased their coffin and ready to be sealed.”

This is coming as INEC has reportedly agreed to shift the state governorship election by two weeks.

The decision to postpone the election was reached at a security meeting held in Benin, the Edo State capital this evening.

A national commissioner at the commission said the Chairman of the commission, Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu, and other national officials of the commission are planning to address a press conference shortly.

Police and the State Security Service want the election rescheduled on security grounds.

But the electoral body, INEC, had earlier affirmed its earlier schedule, saying it would not be “teleguided”.

The commission also said suspending the polls would be costly after reaching at least 97 per cent readiness level.

The commission appears to have buckled under pressure to reverse itself and postpone the election,

The Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria police on Wednesday asked the INEC to postpone the Saturday’s governorship election.

At a news conference in Abuja on Wednesday, Don Awunah, police spokesman, and Garba Abdullahi, an agent of the DSS‎, cited security concerns as the reason for the request.

They said the call was necessitated by the threat of those they referred to as “insurgents” and “extremists” to cause mayhem in the country between September 12 and 13.
