Don’t Shirk Civic Duties, ECWA President Tells Youth at Aba Conference

The President of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), Rev. Dr. Job Ayuba Bagat, has charged thousands of young members of the church to rise boldly to their civic responsibilities and remain spiritually vigilant amid the moral, political, and economic challenges facing Nigeria and the world.

Rev. Bagat delivered the charge during the official opening ceremony of the ECWA Youth Fellowship International (EYFI) Triennial Conference, currently underway at the MPN International Convention Centre (Gilgal) along the Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway in Obizor-Asa, Abia State.

Addressing a mammoth crowd of youth delegates from across Nigeria and the global ECWA diaspora, the ECWA President declared that the conference theme “Keep Your Lamp Burning” is far more than a slogan.

“God is calling on the Youth to keep their lamp burning. This is not a mere slogan, but a divine calling,” he emphasized.

He painted a sobering picture of contemporary realities, including widespread moral confusion, political instability, economic hardship, and spiritual decline, urging the young generation to stay spiritually alert, prayerful, and prepared for service.

Rev. Bagat reminded participants of ECWA’s rich heritage of sound doctrine, aggressive evangelism, global missions, and uncompromising holiness.

He called on the youth to faithfully build upon the solid foundations laid by the church’s founding fathers and to carry forward the legacy with renewed zeal and integrity.

In his remarks, the Director of ECWA Christian Education, Rev. Reuben Yaro, expressed profound gratitude to God for the successful hosting of the conference.

He encouraged the delegates to live as exemplary role models, quoting Scripture to urge them: “Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.”

Prof. Basil Nwosu, Trustee for ECWA Zone 10 (which hosted the event), reminded the youth of their royal identity as “the King’s kids.” He charged them to remain faithful, available, and teachable, assuring them that God will continue to use those who position themselves rightly for His purpose.

Earlier, the National Leader of the ECWA Youth Fellowship International, Bro. Musa Gurati Joseph, described the triennial conference as the fellowship’s “global altar” a sacred, once-every-three-years gathering where the entire ECWA youth family unites in worship, fellowship, training, and renewed commitment.

He reflected on the long journey to 2026, noting that planning for the event began in Zone 10 as far back as 2019. “We thank God that, in His own perfect time, He has brought us to this moment,” Bro. Joseph said.

The ongoing conference is expected to feature powerful teachings, worship sessions, seminars, talent showcases, and strategic sessions aimed at equipping young ECWA members to impact their communities, nation, and the world for Christ while fulfilling both spiritual and civic duties.
