Former political adviser to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and chieftain of the Social Democratic Party (SDP),Dr.Umar Ardo has clinched the governorship ticket of the Party (SDP) in Adamawa state.
Chairman of the electoral committee,Mustapha Jibrilla Aliyu announced that Dr.Ardo emerged unopposed through affirmation from the 678 delegates who participated in the party’s primary election held in Yola Monday.
Aliyu explained that the congress was successful as planned by the committee thanking the officials and delegates from all the 226 wards from the 21 local government Areas in the state.
“Honestly the party primary election of the SDP was a huge success as all went as planned by our committee which made it successful .
“The sole aspirant,Dr.Umar Ardo was elected as the party’s flag bearer for 2023 governorship election through affirmation by the 678 delegates from all the 226 wards across the state as we wish to appreciate all for making our job easy including the Resident Electoral Commissioner and his team who graced the occasion as observers”.Aliyu stated.
In his acceptance speech after his nomination as the party’s candidate,Dr.Ardo expressed gratitude to the party’s officials and delegates for honouring him with the opportunity to represent the party in the forthcoming 2023 elections.
While thanking the Resident Electoral Commissioner and members of INEC team for being there to supervise the event,pledging that the mission of his party is to rescue Adamawa state from bad leadership.
Ardo said his administration under the SDP if given the mandate by the electorate come 2023 will dwell on developmental challenges facing the state such as economic insecurity,poverty,illiteracy hunger and deprivation.
Ardo added that unlimited opportunities endowed with human and material resources in the state will be harness with a view to ensure optimal utilisation of our God-given talents,skills,huge labour force to impact the needed positive change.
He equally itemised five cardinal or key objectives of his administration come 2023 including conquering hunger and diseases,Eradication of illiteracy and ignorance,to conquer unemployment and to touch infrastructural deficit through good policies.
“Our commitment to sustainable human capacity development is premised on the reality that today’s world is essentially knowledge based and driven,and will remain increasingly so in time to come”.Ardo maintained
