A report by Punch newspaper said the Department of State Services in Adamawa State has said it has arrested 22 suspects including those who abducted three professors and a medical doctor in the state.

The Director of the DSS in the state, Bola Olori, told The PUNCH after the arraignment of the 12 kidnap suspects that those who abducted Prof Felix Ilessanmi, lecturer at the Moddibo Adama University of Technology, Yola. were among 5them.

The 12 kidnap suspects were arraigned at an Adamawa High Court 1 and 2 in Yola.

He said, “We have arraigned 12 while there are 10 others who will soon be arraigned once investigations are concluded to provide an ironclad case against each of them. We want the public to know that each one of the culprits facing trial for kidnapping will face the harshest penalty for their crimes.”

Nine of the kidnap suspects were arraigned before Justice Musa Nathan of the state High Court 1 on six counts.

There was however a mild drama when one of the accused, Rufai Ahmadu, pleaded guilty to the charge of kidnapping and attempted kidnapping, accusing his colleague who pleaded not guilty of lying.

He said his co-accused was guilty of the charges preferred against them while exonerating himself of the charge of cattle rustling.

The presiding judge adjourned the hearing until February 25.
