The immediate past Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Christian Pilgrims Commission, NCPC, Rev Yakubu Pam has urged the Federal Government under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take immediate steps to cushion the effects of economic hardship in the country.
Rev Pam made the call while Featuring on “Perspective” a Kapital FM Current Affairs Program.
Speaking on the topic “The Essence of Easter and National Development, Rev Pam noted that leaders must prioritise the needs of the vulnerable in the society.
“I urge our leaders at all levels of governance to recognise the urgency of the economic challenges facing our nation and to take concrete action to provide support for individuals facing economic hardship” Rev Pam stated.
He also urged Christians to use the Easter period for reflection, forgiveness and love, regardless of religion, region or ethnicity.
“Let us come together in solidarity and commitment to create a more inclusive and compassionate society where the burdens of the marginalised are alleviated, and their voices heard”.
He also urged Christians to extend helping hands to those in need and also support the leaders in alleviating the sufferings of fellow citizens.
“As we celebrate this easter we should draw our hearts to the plight of many who struggle to make ends meet, facing financial uncertainty and limited access to basic needs”.
“We long for a Nigeria where every individual is afforded the opportunity to thrive and where our leaders prioritise the well-being of the most vulnerable in our society”.
The Former Executive Secretary of NCPC, implored the government to make sacrifices by cutting down on the cost of governance while also ensuring that the palliatives provided get to the most vulnerable in the society.
“The palliatives they are giving out must reach the vulnerable. It must cut across in a way that the people feel some measure of relief. Also, our leaders must lead by example. You cannot ask people to make sacrifices while you are not showing that measure of sacrifice,” he said.
“Whatever decisions have been taken, I know we will not get immediate results. It is going to be medium and long-term. But the people have to be alive to enjoy the medium and long term. I think that is what is missing at this point in time. People cannot bear it much longer, Rev Pam emphasized”.
Rev Pam who commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his efforts so far, called on him to do more and find solutions to the myriad of challenges confronting the masses.
“I plead with you to find a solution to the plight of the masses. The citizens are crying and wailing. Nigerians are suffering amid a lack of adequate amenities, I implore you to fix these problems, Listen to the complaints of the masses and treat such complaints with all seriousness” he added.
On insecurity affecting National development, Rev Pam advised the Federal Government to implore the “Top to Buttom approach to curb the insecurity bedeviling the country to restore peace across the nation rather than applying federal might.
