The Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), one of Nigeria’s largest Protestant denominations, has announced with profound grief the untimely deaths of three dedicated members in a devastating road accident that occurred as a team returned from a missionary outreach.

The incident involved a bus carrying 14 participants from the Zonzon District Church Council (DCC) in Kaduna State, who had been engaged in an EMS Saturation Outreach mission in Taraba State.
While traveling back, the vehicle was involved in a tragic crash near the Lariski area of Bauchi State. The injured victims were immediately rushed to a hospital in Gombe for urgent medical attention.
Tragically, three individuals succumbed to their injuries and were confirmed dead. Six others remain under treatment and are receiving care, while five have been discharged in stable condition.
The church has identified the departed faithful as: Mama Deborah Bonat, a revered former leader of the ECWA Women Fellowship International, known for her exemplary service and spiritual guidance to countless women across the denomination; Rev. Habila Tagwai Kajan, who previously served as Secretary of the Zonzon DCC, remembered for his diligent administrative leadership and commitment to church growth, and Mama Lydia John, a devoted member whose life reflected quiet but steadfast faith and community support.
In a statement, the ECWA leadership expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing it as a painful blow to the entire church family.
The church is working closely with relevant authorities to facilitate the dignified return of the deceased to their families for proper burial rites.
ECWA extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, friends, and the wider congregation, urging all members to surround them with fervent prayers, comfort, and practical support during this period of immense grief.
The leadership further called on congregants nationwide to remain prayerful, maintain calm, and place unwavering trust in God’s sovereignty amid this heartbreaking tragedy.
“In moments like these, we lean on the promise of eternal life through Christ and the assurance that our departed brothers and sisters are now in His glorious presence,” the statement emphasized.
ECWA continues to stand in solidarity with those affected, praying for healing for the injured and divine strength for all who mourn.
