The Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) is experiencing a renewed sense of unity and purpose, described as the “strength of a unicorn church,” according to its General Secretary, Rev. Ayuba Asheshe.
In an impassioned address, Asheshe declared that ECWA remains steadfast in its mission to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ across sub-Saharan Africa and beyond, crediting the church’s enduring legacy to the vision of its founding patriarchs and the leadership of its current president, Rev. Dr. Job Bagat.
Asheshe highlighted ECWA’s significant contributions to Nigeria’s spiritual, economic, and social fabric, noting that the church’s impact is “enormous and uncountable.”

He attributed this success to the collective efforts of past and present leaders who have worked tirelessly to uphold the church’s core values.
“ECWA is more united and peaceful now than ever before,” Asheshe said, praising Rev. Dr. Bagat’s leadership since taking office last year. In less than a year, Bagat has worked diligently to strengthen the church’s foundation, ensuring it remains a beacon of hope despite challenges.
However, Asheshe did not shy away from addressing detractors. He strongly condemned a recent statement by Pa Joshua Danladi, an 85-year-old elder, who claimed ECWA’s leadership was straying from its founding mandate and fostering division.

Asheshe described Danladi’s remarks as an attempt to “assassinate the corporate image and character” of ECWA’s leaders, likening his actions to “Jacob’s voice stretching out Esau’s hand to steal the church’s birthright.”
He accused Danladi and others of being “coup plotters” with ulterior motives to hijack the church for personal gain, vowing that such “enemies within” would soon be exposed.
“While I felicitate with Pa Joshua for reaching 85 years in vigor, his claims that ECWA is in intensifying divisions and always in the news for bad reasons are baseless,” Asheshe said.
“He is dancing to the tune of those who see the church as their personal property, trying to turn it into a family dynasty. This is not business as usual.”

Asheshe reassured ECWA’s members to remain steadfast, emphasizing that the church’s evangelistic mission remains unshaken.
“Our core values are intact, and we are growing daily through church planting,” he said, underscoring Rev. Dr. Bagat’s commitment to biblical principles and the church’s policies.
He urged members to stay focused on the “true messages of the cross” and resist worldly distractions.

Addressing Danladi’s reference to his District Church Council (DCC), Asheshe expressed disappointment, noting that an elder of his stature should have sought clarity from ECWA’s executive rather than airing grievances publicly.

As ECWA continues its mission, Asheshe called on all members to remain resolute, assuring them that the church is “heavenly bound” and committed to serving God and humanity. With its global outreach expanding, ECWA stands poised to carry the gospel further, undeterred by internal or external challenges.
